PENWARN COUNTRY LODGE
Fun weddings in a beautiful surrounding
PENWARN COUNTRY LODGE IS LOCATED JUST OUTSIDE UNDERBERG IN THE FOOTHILLS OF SOUTHERN DRAKENSBERG OF SOUTH AFRICA.
This country wedding venue specialises in relaxed, fun weddings that incorporate the beautiful surrounding of PENWARN. Most of their wedding ceremonies are outdoors – overlooking the dams, under the oaks, on the island, or in their outdoor Chapel – but in keeping with their philosophy of individually planned weddings, each couple is encouraged to find a spot that takes their very own fancy. A wedding at PENWARN will guarantee photos that you will never tire of looking at and memories to treasure forever.
The wedding banquet is also individually tailored with the smaller weddings held inside the Dining Room which can hold up to 50 people and the larger ones in the thatch lapha which is attached to the bar. Menus incorporate the couples’ tastes and the general theme of the day. From the time the couple chooses PENWARN as a venue, they are assisted with the organising of the entire weekend. The degree of involvement depends on the couple, from having PENWARN co-ordinate the entire wedding e.g. the hiring of equipment, DJ’s, ordering and arranging flowers, hiring photographers etc. or just facilitating enabling more involvement from friends and family.
PENWARN COUNTRY LODGE can comfortably accommodate 55 guests on the property and are able to co-ordinate the accommodation of the other guests at nearby venues. The entire property is for the exclusive use of the wedding party and guests from the Friday until the Sunday. The Penwarn/Waterford Estate, a 3000 hectare spread bordering the Ukhahlamba World Heritage Site, is a photographer’s dream, with a choice of backdrops and props… a variety of game including zebra, wildebeest, ostrich and other antelope roam free across the hillsides and plains, while the blue heights of the Drakensberg rise up to the west. Waterford Farm is home to the largest single dairy farm in KwaZulu Natal, breeds and trains a variety of horse breeds, has a farmyard that is home to typical farmyard animals including chickens, geese, turkeys, peacocks, rabbits and ducks. Waterford offers some of the most reowned fly-fishing waters in the country and birding opportunities unlike most others.
